As this New Year progresses, the Greenbriar Oceanaire Men’s Club is very proud of the many fun days and wonderful charitable endeavors accomplished this past year. The Men’s Club is a registered nonprofit organization. From the most enjoyable social events, the membership meetings and most importantly, the charitable accomplishments, the members of the Men’s Club and the residents of Greenbriar Oceanaire can be very proud. It has been my honor as President to have a very dedicated group to make this the most successful year, both socially and charitably, in our history. This could not have been without the generous giving of time and money by our members and residents. From a small group of men in our beginning, to a present membership in excess of 300, the club has earned a reputation of being an organization that provides fun, provides help to those in need and supports all aspects of our armed forces.
Many of you may not realize that there are many charitable events of the Men’s Club of which you are not aware, i.e., the painting and repairs done at the National Resource Education Foundation of NJ, the painting and repairs done at the Boy Scout camp here in Waretown, the outreach program to veterans in need of individual help, the purchase of toys and distribution of these toys to the children of Waretown, the donation of money and food to the food banks at St Stephens Church and St. Mary’s Church. The support of the VetWork Organization in Lacey enables them to feed and provide shelter to the homeless veterans when the weather turns very cold. We also coordinate the “Scouts for Food” drive. In the continuing policy of giving back to the community, the club has purchased appliances for those in need that cannot afford to replace the damages caused by Sandy. This past year, the Holiday Fund distributed 220 holiday dinners for Thanksgiving and for Christmas to the families of the National Guard troops defending our way of life and to the families in need of Waretown. The sorting of the provisions and delivery of this food is done with over 20 volunteers during the Thanksgiving and Christmas seasons. In addition, this fund, the largest amount being donated since its inception, will enable us to provide the various food banks with additional food supplies throughout the Spring when they have a great need. Over 800 are helped at St.Stephens and over 1300 have been helped by St Mary’s each month since the devastation caused by Sandy. Most importantly, the Men’s Club provides four (4) $1,000.00 college education grants to students graduating from Southern Regional High School that reside in Waretown so that they may continue their education and develop into the leaders of the future.
Our social events have been very successful events throughout the year for the enjoyment of the members of GOMC and the residents of Greenbriar Oceanaire. The success of these events this past year is due to the extraordinary efforts and planning of Ed Driscoll and Tom Toscano. The upcoming St Patrick’s Day dinner and dance scheduled for Saturday, March 16 with the great sounds of the Willie Lynch Band will keep you hopping. Then the Men’s Club has scheduled a new event. The Kentucky Derby runs on May 4th and we will be showing it in the ballroom along with other entertainment. Get your jockey outfits ready and be prepared to ride a winning horse as you sip (no gulping allowed) on your mint julep. Save these dates and get your reservation in early. A flyer for St Patrick’s Day is in this newsletter.
Our fund raising events, for everyone’s information, are completely separate from all our social events and 100% of all charitable collections are donated to the needy and to the charity involved. As a reminder, our success has much to do with our membership and the residents of Greenbriar Oceanaire. As our membership increases, the amount of good deeds that we can provide increases. If you are not a current member, by becoming a member today you can help us maintain these programs. Our meetings are scheduled for the 3rd Thursday evening of each month in the ballroom. Volunteers are always needed for various projects. At the present time, I am looking for volunteers to help with the rebuilding of primary residences of Sandy victims who cannot afford to repair their homes. This is an Ocean County nonprofit project and will probably begin within the next 2 months. If you can help in any way please call Aaron at 242-2390 to volunteer.
The Executive Board and the members of the Greenbriar Oceanaire Men’s Club are very grateful to the generous residents of Greenbriar Oceanaire and wish to thank each and every one of you that have graciously given your time, effort and money in support of our worthwhile endeavors.

The GOMC is proud, through the efforts of Helen Dermofy and Dotty Thomas, to make every effort possible to support our national guard troops assigned to protect our way of life. More units are now being sent overseas. They nees our help with the necessities we take for granted.
